Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Send-Off Celebration
CIMMfest 2015 kicks off with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame send-off party for blues’ most celebrated drummer. Sam Lay was on drums when Bob Dylan went electric at Newport. He was in the studio and on the road with blues greats Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Little Walter and James Cotton. He was a founding member of the groundbreaking Paul Butterfield Blues Band. He is, at 79, still an active part of the Chicago Blues scene and the man some call “the greatest drummer of all time.” And on April 18, he’ll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. The CIMMfest 2015 kickoff event hosted by Grammy-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker John Anderson with Sam Lay and Corky Siegel, clips from Anderson’s new movie Sam Lay in Bluesland and a full set with Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials, Saturday, April 18, April 11, 9pm at Rosa’s

Reggies and CIMMfest Present: Bullfights on Acid / Special Guest / TBA
Named after a line from the movie Caddyshack, local groove-rockers Bullfights on Acid are a somewhat recent addition to the Chicago music community, having formed a few short years ago. The band takes influence from a variety of sounds, but will most likely appeal to jam band, psych, and improv aficionados.

Emerging local rockers The Ars Nova blend their loves of classic rock, funk, blues, and jam bands into familiar-sounding, yet fun combinations. The four-piece also enjoys the art of improvisation, so audiences can expect something a little different with every show.

Seven-piece funk/soul outfit Steady Flow comes to CIMMfest from Peoria, Illinois, where they’ve developed a following for their lively showmanship and musical technique. Armed with a three-piece horn section and organist, Steady Flow released its debut EP, “The Oneoff Sessions,” in 2013.

Thomas Comerford followed his folksy debut Archive + Spiral with II, a darker effort that draws from David Bowie, country, and the 1970s. Robbie Skye creates glam-infused power pop on his debut Love Where You Live that evokes Marc Bolan.

Revenge of the Mekons, Presented in conjunction with Lake FX Summit + Expo
Political provocateurs. Social agitators. Punk’s reigning contrarians. The Mekons have been called all this and more. The feature documentary Revenge of the Mekons chronicles the unlikely story of a group of radical British art students who formed in the first blast of punk rock in 1977. Against all odds—and despite a career consigned to the margins—the Mekons continue to tour and make adventurous and challenging albums, despite the fact that its eight members are separated by thousands of miles across two continents. Adored with cult-like devotion by fans and critics alike, the Mekons have redefined themselves and their music repeatedly over the years while staying true to the punk ethos. But the Mekons are more than just a band. They’re also an art collective whose members make art individually, collectively and in collaboration with other avant-garde artists. A rich and illuminating account of a fascinating, criminally under-recognized band, Revenge of the Mekons is a lively, inspiring and entertaining film—with killer music, to boot. Q&A with director Joe Angio, Jon Langford and Sally Timms follows.

Friday, April 17th at 8:00 pm
Queerdos & friends of Chicago: Welcome to CIMMFest’s Queer Video Screening and Music Event. Through video art, short fictions and music videos, this program touches a wide array of topics: stretching notions of gender identity; kinship and sexuality; proper bodies and their organized functions while dealing with a bunch of other social and political struggles such as the fight against HIV/AIDS, sexism, confinement, racism, and mental illness. Digging at the intersections of queerness with humour, indecision or in-your-face queer fabulousness, this program holds together with music at its core—it’s CIMMfest after all! As the title of his critically acclaimed Atlantic Records CD suggests, John Primer is truly “The Real Deal.” The Grammy Award and Blues Music Award nominee does not mess around. At 70 years old he’s been playing the blues for over five decades—hard to believe, but he started with a homemade guitar built on his kitchen wall with a broom wire, two nails, and two rocks--to make it tight before he was eight! Primer was instantly hooked with the sounds of Jimmy Reed, Little Milton, and Muddy Waters and easily fills their shoes as one of the greats. As a song of his soulfully cries, “Keep On Loving the Blues”…it would be our pleasure, John Primer!

Country singer-songwriter Todd Snider has been making audiences smile since the mid-1990s when he released the satirical, "ìTalkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues... His work continues to reflect his outsider point-of-view, leftwing politics, and good nature, most recently in his 2014 memoir I Never Met A Story I Didn't Like

Fatbook / Natty Nation

Fatbook has a Latino feel with a reggae beat all wrapped up in a groove that is almost sensual. There are seven members in this band and it seems as though each one inserts his personal influence. The effect is a sound as individual as the band members themselves.

Natty Nation describes itself as the "all original hard roots rock reggae band." This is definitely a band for traditional rock and reggae listeners, combining the best sounds from both genres. Heavy on guitar and an old-school reggae drumbeat, this island sound will be loved by Marley fans.
